Leading EDGE Recipients Share Their Study Mission Experience

Many young professionals are challenged by limited resources in their pursuit to gain the very resources they need to better their careers and communities. To help build meaningful professional experiences and offset the cost, Metro EDGE created a scholarship fund called Leading EDGE. The scholarship fund helps increase the participation of young professionals in signature Metro Chamber programs with the purpose of building connections, learning leadership, and fostering economic prosperity.

As part of the scholarship fund, we are currently accepting applications for the 2018 Study Mission to Brooklyn, happening October 9-12, 2018. Please confirm that you meet the eligibility and criteria information before applying. Best of luck!

Heather Williams, Inspire Giving Liason attended the 18th Annual Study Mission in 2016 to the Twin Cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul Minnesota. Heather shares more about her experience:

Why did you apply for Leading EDGE / attend Study Mission?

I had heard from other EDGErs about their amazing experiences at past Study Missions and the Leading EDGE fund would be my only opportunity to attend at that time. I'm so thankful for the wonderful experience.

What is one piece of advice you'd give someone considering attending Study Mission or applying for Leading EDGE?

You will have access to amazing people and places on Study Mission, make sure you take advantage of it while you're there. If you invest the time and energy you can build some really great relationships.

In 2017, Michael Weagraff, Community Engagement Chair, applied for the Leading EDGE scholarship and attended the Study Mission in Austin, Texas.

Why did you apply for Leading EDGE / attend Study Mission?

I wanted to learn more about the city of Austin, but I knew that by spending my days with the movers and shakers of the Sacramento region, I would learn so much more about Sacramento than I already did

How did attending positively impact your professional development/career goals?

As someone who forms partnerships between the business community and the College of Business Administration at Sacramento State, I was able to develop a lot of valuable relationships in a short amount of time.

What is one piece of advice you'd give someone considering attending Study Mission or applying for Leading EDGE?

Really consider applying for the scholarship. If you attend a Study Mission, make every effort to introduce and network with everyone that is on the trip. The relationships that you will form will benefit you personally and professionally.
