#BlastTheBallot – Questions on the Issues

If you're attending In the Mix :: BlastTheBallot tonight at New Helvetia Brewery and are a little apprehensive about speaking with the official guests, don't worry. EDGE has put together a few questions on the races and issues to get your conversations started. Tickets will be available online today until 4:30 p.m. and at the door at 5:30 p.m.

Questions for candidates and local representatives:

  1. What do you feel are the most important issues facing Sacramento’s young professional population?
  2. What is your vision of Sacramento 5, 10, 20 years into the future? How will your time in office help shape our city/region?
  3. What has been biggest disappointment while in office (targeted at something they wanted to do and didn’t accomplish or something they did and it backfired)?
  4. Where do you stand on (insert an issue that concerns you here)?

Questions for Assembly Members Roger Dickinson and Dr. Richard Pan:

  1. How would you characterize the ideological differences between you and your opponent?
  2. What were your thoughts on Sen. Steinberg’s CEQA reform bill? As it applies to Sacramento and the downtown arena, and also how it applies to the state.
  3. How would you work with city and county leaders to help Sacramento establish itself as a home and destination for young professionals?

Questions for Rosalyn Van Buren, Steve Cohn for Assembly Campaign:

  1. What issues does the Councilman feel he will be able to champion as a member of the Assembly?
  2. Describe the Councilman’s efforts to help young professionals live and work in the Sacramento area.
  3. What would the Councilman say is his greatest achievement while in office?
  4. Where does the Councilman stand on (insert an issue that concerns you here)?

Questions for Representatives from Folsom, Roseville, Lincoln, Citrus Heights

  1. What is your plan to work with Sacramento to ensure our whole region continues to offer affordable housing and good jobs to young professionals?
  2. What would you say are the main differences between your community and the City of Sacramento?
  3. What do you feel are the challenges in attracting young professionals to the Sacramento area?
  4. What has been your community’s best program/project over the last 4 years?

Questions on Measure L:

  1. Give me your elevator speech (30-seconds) for why we need a strong mayor system in Sacramento?
  2. How has the current model failed?
  3. The council can fire a city manager, but mayors are elected. What are the checks on a strong mayor?
