Get your Cap-to-Cap Training Wheels at State Leg Day

On Thursday, February 11, the Sacramento Metro Chamber will travel to a big white building to meet with powerful politicians, advocate for our Region’s issues, and network with business leaders from the Sacramento area. For those of you who have already penciled in Cap-to-Cap on your calendars, don’t worry, the date hasn’t changed. This is the Chamber’s annual State Legislative Summit, sometimes known as State Leg Day.

Just like C2C, attendees work in groups around specific topic areas like Air Quality, Health Care, Transportation and more to advocate for issues specific to our region. After hearing from a panel of elected officials from both sides of the aisle in both houses and a keynote elected official, the teams travel to the Capitol to meet with legislators and state administrators on issues that impact the Sacramento Area. And, in true business community form, attendees regroup for a reception and some pretty impressive networking.

This year’s lineup of speakers includes:

  • Senator Ted Gaines
  • Senator Lois Wolk
  • Assembly Member James Gallagher
  • Assembly Member Jim Cooper
  • Featured Speaker:  California Secretary of State Alex Padilla
  • Honorary Chair: West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon

I’ve participated over the past two years and was able to participate on small teams with mayors, council members, business leaders and influencers from across the Region. And while I haven’t made it to Cap-to-Cap (yet), State Leg Day is an awesome opportunity to get your feet wet in regional advocacy efforts.

This year, EDGE has five tickets to offer to YPs interested in attending. Are you interested? Tweet at @MetroEDGE and share with us how you can #BeTheChange at State Leg Day. But first, remember to check with your boss to see if you can attend. Check here for the details. The deadline to submit is 5:00pm on Tuesday, February 9.
