It’s time to celebrate!

It’s hard to believe my term as Chair of Metro EDGE is more than halfway complete and what an exciting year it’s been!

The #YearofYP has seen the state’s first young professional summit – EMERGE Summit – which by all accounts was a smashing success. The event brought together more than 600 young professionals from 10 regional leadership programs to network, share ideas and activate the voice of young professionals regarding issues that matter to us. And it was just the beginning!

I’m thrilled to see that young professionals are now a part of the conversation, we don’t just have a seat at the table; we’re taking action! Take the recent Metro EDGE investments in Bright Underbelly and TBD Fest – we’re playing a critical role creating one-of-a-kind cultural amenities that are just the start of so many great things to come. Of course, none of this could’ve happened without all of the activities led by Metro EDGE over the past five years.

From day one Metro EDGE has challenged the status quo. Who was at the first launch party at Lounge on 20 (now Low Brau) where a group of “rabble rousers” came together around an idea of creating a platform focused on developing future business and civic leaders? Or what about the big party at 1801 L where we were shut down because the music was too loud – at 8 p.m. on a Tuesday night?! Always the first to try the newest hotspot, provide access to the region’s biggest leaders (LOVE Executive Insight!) and of course, all of the EDGEclusve deals … EDGE has grown into an amazing program.

A few of my favorite memories come from trivia nights where past chairs Sean O’Brien and Ryan Porter got to show the lighter side of EDGE and of course, who could forget the Day on the EDGE dodgeball tournaments? Go Team ‘Merica – a proud two-time champion (don’t hold the outfits against me). The memories I cherish most have to be all of the friendships forged over these past few years. Some of my closest friends today I met through Metro EDGE – often over late night discussions about how we were going to change the world!

I can’t wait for EDGE 916 where we’ll get to celebrate it all. I hear often that Metro EDGE knows how to throw a great party – and this is going to be the best yet!
