Planning & Performance is excited to announce an opening for an Enterprise Performance Planning Coordinator (J)position.

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading coordination of the tracking, maintaining, reporting, communicating and presenting Enterprise and Operational measures that address short/long term strategies related to tactical efforts focused on performance management that align to the SMUD strategic goals. This includes working directly with Executives, Directors, subject matter experts & planning staff.
  • Coordinate, collect, and document industry measure submissions on behalf of SMUD.
  • Provide support to Enterprise Project Portfolio reporting and governance.

Purpose

The Planning Coordinator, Enterprise Performance will partner with mid- senior management to establish a system of transparency regarding SMUD performance through the development of improvement initiatives and information systems that create a direct line of sight between tactical planning and strategic direction.. This position is a key partner with management in the identification, establishment and evaluation of enterprise performance metrics and business improvement activities that lead to value creation and true positive impact on SMUD operations.

Nature and Scope: This classification is comprised of two levels: Level "E" is the entry-level where incumbents are provided formal training and/or certification for progression to the journey-level of the classification. The incumbent is promoted/progressed to the journey level "J" upon successful completion of all training and/or certification requirements for the classification. Incumbents hired at the entry-level are required to successfully progress to the journey-level within 18 to 60 months, depending on the length of the training and/or certification program. If an employee is unsuccessful with progressing to the journey-level they will return to last class held or separate from SMUD.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, facilitate and lead continuous improvement activity related to strategic, tactical and operational plans for SMUD business unit(s) and integrates and reconciles these plans with the Enterprise Performance Information system ensuring a "line-of-sight" is maintained and value is extracted from these activities.
  • Develops and maintains close working relationships with business unit leaders, senior management and business unit planning coordinators in multiple departments of the SMUD.
  • Develop and manage effective systems to track, analyze, report and respond to business operations performance Leads performance review sessions with business units; reviews key performance goals at senior managers’ monthly staff meetings; and, works with business areas to identify and implement ways to correct poor performing functions or processes.
  • Develops and maintains the overall structure of the SMUD’s Enterprise Performance system.
  • Utilizes process improvement and re-engineering methodologies to examine and enhance operations and organizational capabilities through project teams.
  • Establish benchmarks and key customer service, operational and financial performance measures based upon best practice research
  • Designs and maintains an active library/database of SMUD key performance indicators and improvement initiatives. Oversees preparation of Enterprise Performance information content. Creates and maintains related tasks descriptions to insure process integrity and transparent understanding.
  • Collaborates with key internal business partners to identify and resolve people, process or technology issues; provides information and data to business units as requested to assist in performance or system improvement and business decision making.
  • Coordinates with Business Technology to implement system improvements to assist in business management and performance reporting.
  • Interaction with Business Unit Planning Coordinators to set priorities for business unit level metrics and structure of the "dashboard" and linking scorecards.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 7 years of experience needed without bachelor's degree.

Experience:
Three or more (3+) years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in a continuous improvement environment. Leadership and development of performance measurements. Driver of initiative identification and improvement activity. Development of performance information systems while partnering with senior management.

Knowledge of and Skill to: Superior written and communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to partner with others and deal with multiple priorities and differing points of view; business and political acumen; understanding of SMUD operations and inter-workings; strategic planning; knowledge of performance reporting and analytical approaches including variance analysis, testing causal relationships, root cause analysis, etc.; business process improvement; project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and lead complex, cross functional teams; develop and implement programs/strategies designed to provide meaningful performance reports; address complex issues and assimilate information rapidly; challenge assumptions and weigh consequences when making decisions; reconcile significant and/or controversial differences to bring interested parties to consensus; change management resources and techniques; gather data from appropriate resources and identify relevant factors; apply applicable laws, codes, and regulations; hold self accountable for actions and results.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge of project management and process improvement principles.
  • Experience in working with and presenting to senior leadership.
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal, and visual-aid communication skills.
  • Understanding of electric utility operations.
  • Experience with SAP, ServiceNow Project Portfolio Management (PPM), and PowerBI
