Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for University Development, the Director of Development serves as a major gift officer with a focus on qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects and donors who have the capacity to give $25,000 or more.  The Director of Development utilizes a team approach to building relationships with current and prospective donors designed to deepen their commitment to the University and their understanding of its vision and priorities. The position provides professional staff support to deans, department chairs, faculty, other senior officials, and key volunteers in cultivation and solicitation initiatives.  The Director of Development may be assigned to a project, college, academic unit and/or a geographic region, depending upon the priorities of the University and advancement goals.

FLSA: Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,583 - $14,713 per month

Hiring Range: $7,083 - $9,166 per month, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training

Salary Grade/Range:  1

Recruitment Type: Regular (At-Will)

Time Base: Full-Time

Pay Plan: 12 months

Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8a.m. to 5p.m; other hours as required.

Telecommuting Options: Hybrid Work Available

Required Qualifications 

Education/Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  2. Experience in cultivating and closing major gifts of $25k+ in higher education, philanthropy corporate relations, or similar sales and business development experience
  3. Strong understanding and experience of fundraising or sales industry best practices to achieve goals and mission

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  1. Demonstrated ability to successfully build professional relationships with prospects and internal stakeholders
  2. Understanding of philanthropy and Director of Development’s role
  3. Demonstrated ability to establish measurable fundraising or sales goals and objectives, and to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies to achieve them
  4. Strong communication and presentation skills
  5. Detail-oriented skills
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  7. Proficient in standard office programs such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, databases, etc.

Work Schedule Requirements:

  1. Ability to travel, as needed
  2. Ability to work evenings and weekends, as needed

Licenses:

  1. Valid driver’s license and maintenance of good driving record, for occasional driving per the Essential Functions of the position

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited university.
