Job Description

The key measures of success for the Advocacy Manager are to (a) carry advocacy priorities forward through City and County policy, (b) create and build relationships with partner agencies, industry based organizations, and neighborhood associations, (c) educate stakeholders on key policy initiatives, and (d) maintain healthy restaurant districts by delivering on key outcomes on behalf of management plans. Position Summary and Requirements: The key measures of success for the Policy Manager are to carry advocacy priorities forward through City and County policy; create and build relationships with partner agencies, industry based organizations, and neighborhood associations; educate stakeholders on key policy initiatives; and maintain healthy restaurant districts by delivering on key outcomes on behalf of BID management plans.

Qualified Managers have successful supervisory experience of staff and consultants, can act as the staff support to committees of board members and expert community members, have experience with budget development and management, have knowledge of key performance indicators and techniques for tracking data related to economic output and development growth trends, and can plan program performance to generate specific outcomes. Managers bring recommendations to their supervisor for greater efficiency and service delivery in the organization. Managers create key partnerships in the community to ensure the success of the organization. Managers should have no less than six years of professional experience in a relevant area and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study is preferred. Experience with project management software such as Monday.com is a plus.

Basic Employment Qualifications: All candidates should have experience with Word Processing, Excel and email programs, the ability to speak, read and clearly write in English, the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and be able to remain on their feet outdoors for up to 10 hours per day in potentially inclement weather. Candidates should have experience with project management software, tracking legislation at the local and state level, and use of development software such as co-star. All candidates should anticipate pre-employment background checks, driving record checks, and drug screening, with the potential for ongoing drug screening based on job tasks. Bachelor’s degree is preferred, high school diploma or GED is required. Reliable personal transportation is required as is a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment: The work environment is located primarily inside and consists of completing tasks involving project management, communications, and advocacy. Conditions can range to include working outside in all types of inclement weather. Must be able to work around varying degrees of noise. Interruptions to work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Benefits: This is a full time, exempt position at no less than 40 hours per week. Schedule is generally Monday through Friday, 8 am until 5 pm, however there are regular variations for public and evening meetings and to accommodate special events. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Policy Management: Prepare talking points, position letters, and policy analysis of local and statewide issues impacting Midtown. Utilize tools and surveys to engage stakeholders on policy matters. Utilize trends from the organization and outside industries to affect upcoming policy decisions. Use newsletter and social media platforms to communicate with and educate stakeholders and elected officials.
  • Business Resource Management:  Develop and maintain constituent email lists including location and industry based groups that will be engaged as policy and projects become relevant from federal, state and local resources. Report to Business Improvement District (BID) and Property Based Improvement District (PBID) committees on resources and efforts to support tenants and businesses. Oversee and lead Entertainment/Music Venue Committee.
  • BID Administration: Set and manage three restaurant committees including developing agenda, engaging committee members, planning presentations with other program managers and facilitating service support for members through the Placemaking, Communications and Clean & Safe Departments. Support the formal renewal and formation process of existing BIDs and new BIDs. Work with the Business Operations Manager to ensure funds are collected and dispersed in a timely fashion.
