Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento provides Sacramento and Yolo County individuals and families with a springboard to secure, stable futures through affordable homeownership, home repairs, and neighborhood revitalization. In 2021, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento impacted over 10,000 people through home build, repair, and community projects.

Your Impact

This is an exceptional role for a fundraising professional to join a successful team that is poised for growth. The new Senior Development Officer will bring solid campaign, solicitation, and event experience, and will have the maturity and gravitas to interact with business and nonprofit leaders.

The Senior Development Officer is responsible for developing strategies for and securing annual and sustained support from individual and corporate donors, successfully managing a robust portfolio of individual and corporate donors, and successfully creating and implementing events for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento.

Through direct solicitations and events, the Senior Development Officer will solicit and oversee over $650,000 in revenue generation towards the department’s $5.5 million development budget.

Primary Responsibilities

Donor Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship (50%)

· Collaborate closely with the Chief Development Officer to develop and implement an annual donor cultivation and stewardship plan that identifies strategies to maximize donations from individual and corporate donors

· Manage portfolio of 100-150 donors and prospects to ensure thoughtful stewardship and communication and motivate continued support

· Directly solicit four and five-figure donations from individuals and corporations

· Research grant funding opportunities to support annual giving

Events (30%)

· Lead, plan and implement all Habitat events for the affiliate including, but not limited to large-scale theme-build events like our Women Build, cultivation events, and large-scale fundraising events such as the annual Habitat Gala ($300,000+ annual revenue)

· Plan and oversee build related and cultivation events such as wall raising, and home dedications

· Manage and assume responsibility for all event logistics including revenue, budgeting, venue selection & details, vendor selection & management, establishing and monitoring timelines, and day-of-event management. Also responsible for direction of team members to support volunteer recruitment & management, outreach & solicitation collateral, and marketing

· Act as staff liaison for volunteer event committees

· Works evenings and weekends, as needed, in support of special events, community outreach, and initiatives

Date and Information Management (10%)

· Utilize CRM to track prospects, donations, moves management, and donor engagement

· Provide accurate and timely activity, pipeline reports, and revenue forecasts

Organizational Infrastructure and Department Support (10%)

· Collaborate with team members for assets and support on development initiatives, campaigns and prospects

· Maintain knowledge of the external environment as it relates to philanthropy and housing

· Additional support for Chief Development Officer and affiliate as needed

Work Experience Requirements

· Passion for and commitment to Habitat for Humanity mission

· 3+ years’ work experience in fundraising

· Experience managing large-scale events (250-500 people)

· Experience using a CRM database required; Raiser’s Edge experience highly preferred

· Natural relationship builder who enjoys being around people

· Prior experience working with fundraising volunteers highly desirable

· Capable of managing multiple high-level initiatives and projects at one time

· Can multi-task in an intense, fast-paced environment

· Able to connect with all types of people

· Strong work ethic

· Grant writing experience is a plus

· Innovative, creative, strategic, and analytical thinker

· Strong communication skills, including the abilities to write, speak clearly and effectively, and listen; an unusual capacity to engage, inspire, influence, and persuade

· Excellent organizational and prioritization skills; ability to manage an unpredictable workflow and possess the flexibility to respond thoughtfully and quickly

Licenses, Certificates, Other Skills: Preferred candidates will have a valid California driver's license and meet our organization’s automobile insurability requirements. Selected certifications may be required (CPR certification, etc.) at the organization’s expense.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. Employee may occasionally be asked to work in the ReStore or at Construction build sites for special events, Board functions, or for training meetings.

Work Hours: Full-time, flexible hours. Some weekday evenings, weekends, and travel required. This is an exempt role with a heavy emphasis on relationship building. The Development Officer should be prepared for a schedule that includes being a visible presence at community and networking events and being available for evening meetings and presentations as needed. While some weeks will be more and some weeks will be less, candidates should plan for at 1-2 evenings a week and one weekend every other month outside of traditional work hours.

Physical Requirements: Candidate should have the ability to sit comfortably for prolonged time period. Position will also include occasional standing, lifting items up to 40 pounds, walking, and bending/squatting. This position requires outreach in the community, including visiting active construction sites. This position will occasionally be engaged in community build or improvement projects, such as community clean-ups, serving outside in various types of weather.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
