We are seeking a Project Management Specialist to join the Foundation in its mission of benefiting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation.

What You’ll Do

Under the direction of the Director of Professional Learning in the Success Center, the Project Management Specialist is responsible for maintaining management of all aspects of a large scale complex  implementation of a new learning management system designed to improve the professional development experience of all California Community College professionals.

This position is part of the Success Center and will work closely with the Technology and Communications Team of the Foundation. The Project Management Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standard of quality. Through a collaborative and iterative approach, using Agile methodology, this position will collaborate with project team members (Chancellor’s Office employees, employees, contractors, and consultants) to deliver this technology platform to all community college professionals, in 115 colleges and 72 districts.

What you bring

  • Support the on-going development of The Vision Resource Center Project by tracking day-to-day project deliverables and milestones to ensure that project objectives are achieved within identified timeline with budget and scope.
  • Coordinate activities of the cross functional project team, fostering an iterative and agile project management approach, to ensure project meets stakeholder expectations. Proactively identify and respond to changed conditions and events as necessary to optimize project results.
  • Identify project risks and work with the Director and team to anticipate and resolve issues.
  • Prepare project updates for clients/funders and other stakeholders to keep others informed of project status.
  • Facilitate meetings with clients (funders) to effectively lead project implementation and identify and resolve problems and issues.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve Vision Resource Center for all user types.
  • Develop or edit content for the web or mobile apps.
  • Plan and lead user testing.
  • Track and manage project status in project management tools, JIRA and others, through the entire service delivery cycle.
  • Provide ad-hoc support for other Vision Resource Center-related project work.

Ideal Candidate Qualities

  • An Associates (AA/AS) degree or equivalent related experience required
  • Familiarity with the California Community Colleges and system partners
  • 3+ years’ experience with progressive responsibility in project management within development, communications, or marketing
  • Experience building and launching products using an agile development methodology
  • Agile certification or training preferred
  • Effective written communication skills to translate technical specifications, project plans and project documentation into epics, stories and tasks that cross-functional team members can understand
  • Ability to proactively track and share identifiable outcomes, measures, and implementation timelines of technology and other types of projects
  • Passionate about providing students with stronger pathways to education and building a more just and equitable California overall
  • A self-starter and quick learner who is highly motivated and outcome-oriented, always seeking innovative approaches to project execution
  • A strategic and creative thinker who can problem-solve, working within and across teams to swiftly respond to needs identified across the California Community Colleges
  • Practices ownership, takes accountability, and has the ability to project manage, prioritize tasks, and deliver quality products on time with limited supervision
  • Ability to work on a fast-paced team and build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
