The mission of Truckee River Watershed Council is to bring the community Together for the Truckee.  We restore, protect, and enhance the Truckee River Watershed.

JOB TITLE: Development Director

HOURS:  Full time, with some evening and weekend activities.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  The Development Director takes the lead to implement our program to raise unrestricted funds from individuals, businesses, and private foundations. We use the Benevon fundraising model.  The Development Director works closely with a fundraising team (Sustainable Funding Team) of staff, board members, and volunteers.

SUPERVISION: Reports to Executive Director

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Truckee River Watershed Council is a small team and our approach allows us to be nimble and take ownership of new projects. Work may be stressful at times.

We work from a small office in the downtown district in Truckee. The position is based in our office and involves frequent contact with staff and the public.  None of our staff work remotely.

We are a dog-friendly work place.  If you are a responsible dog owner and your dog is well-socialized, your dog can come to work with you.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)

  1. Maintain an understanding of the Truckee River Watershed Council and its priorities;
  2. Work closely with the Sustainable Funding Team to implement the Benevon fundraising program;
  3. Manage frequent one hour introductory River Talks;
  4. Manage the annual River Breakfast fundraising event;
  5. Recruit potential donors and retain existing donors;
  6. Recruit and retain major donors;
  7. Manage mid-year and year-end appeals;
  8. Coordinate donation and pledge data entry and tracking;
  9. Represent TRWC at fundraising functions and other mission-based events;
  10. Attend early morning Board meetings and work evenings and weekends;
  11. Maintain strict confidentiality;
  12. Additional duties as requested or directed.

 

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Focused, efficient, and able to effectively prioritize work projects and manage time under rigid deadlines.
  2. Excellent communication skills, including writing, proofreading, and speaking.
  3. Excellent project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adjust to shifting priorities.
  4. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills and confidence in talking with guests and donors over email, telephone and in person.
  6. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues and donors.
  7. Established email, word processing, spreadsheet and database skills are required.
  8. Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision making to achieve organizational objectives.
  9. Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings and lead small groups.
  10. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  11. Ability to produce high quality work with accuracy and attention to detail.
