Monica HansWhere do you currently work, how long have you been there, what do you do?
I am a partner at Delfino Madden O’Malley Coyle & Koewler LLP where my practice focuses on all aspects of management-side labor and employment law, ADA accessibility, and business litigation. I counsel clients on a wide array of topics, including the Affordable Care Act, Affirmative Action, obligations related to the interactive process and reasonable accommodations, sexual harassment prevention and anti-harassment training, wage disputes, independent contractor and employment agreements, discipline and termination, workplace investigations, wage and hour audits, workplace violence, employment policies, the preservation of trade secrets, service animal policies, and auxiliary aids and services policies. When comprehensive preventative counseling results in a claim or lawsuit, I step in to defend employers and businesses against individual and class actions initiated in federal and state courts throughout California.

Prior to that?
Prior to joining Delfino Madden upon opening its doors in April 2014, I worked for approximately seven and a half years as an attorney in Downey Brand LLP’s Employment Benefits Practice Group.

What is your educational background?
I graduated from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law with a J.D. in 2003 after receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from California State University, Chico. Go Wildcats!

What is the best part of your job?
The challenge of navigating California’s ever evolving labor and employment law landscape; the wide variety of legal issues that my practice allows me to encounter; and the people – I am surrounded by colleagues and clients who offer stimulating discussion, engage in creative problem solving and are enjoyable to work with on a daily basis.

What do you love about living here?
Watching the city grow into its own over the years . . . from the Farm-to-Fork movement, including the continuing national recognition of Sacramento’s amazing food scene, to the new state of the art arena, the railcar project, and everything in between!

What is one thing that might surprise people about you?
I have an orange Tough Mudder headband.

When you aren't in the office where can we find you?
Hiking; Crossfit; wine tasting; watching 49ers Football or Kings Basketball at a local watering hole, while occasionally humoring my significant other by rooting for the Bears, Bulls or Iowa Hawkeyes; happy hour with the Networking & Events Committee working on bringing new and exciting events to our Metro EDGE members.
